Reproductive Dysfunctions and Alcohol Dependence Linked Among Women
Results will be published in the November issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research and are presently available at Early View.
"Reproductive dysfunctions include a range of catamenial disorders, sexual dysfunctions, and pregnancy complications that include spontaneous abortion or miscarriage," explained Mary Waldron, supporter professor of psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine and corresponding writer for the study. "Teenagers who deglutition tend to have disruptions in their menstrual cycle as well as unplanned pregnancies."
These complications may go more pronounced with time, added Sharon C. Wilsnack, Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor in the department of clinical neuroscience at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences. "Higher rates of generative dysfunction in adult women may reflect the accumulative effects of longer exposure to alcohol for older women than for female adolescents," she said.
For this study, Waldron and her colleagues analyzed data collected on deuce groups of Australian twins born 'tween 1893-1964 (3,634 female and 1,880 male twins) and 1964-1971 (3,381 female and 2,748 male twins). Control variables included socio-demographic characteristics, regular smoking, history of psychopathology, and family and childhood risks.
Results indicate delayed reproductive onset among alcoholic women in both groups, with little to no effect discovered among men.
"To our noesis, this is the number one study to examine alcohol's effects on reproductive attack across procreative development," said Waldron. "Most previous research has examined risks to teens or adults merely not both. Our findings highlight a risk associated with AD in women that is not widely recognized - a risk that has assumed increasing importance minded the increased rates of alcohol misapply by women and specially young women."
Both Waldron and Wilsnack said the smaller effects on reproduction found among manpower may be due to the fact that women reach higher blood alcohol concentrations than men spell consuming similar amounts of alcohol - which english hawthorn contribute to a stronger link between drinking and reproductive problems in women. It may also be, added Wilsnack, that research demonstrating prejudicious effects of alcohol habit on male reproduction is not as extensive and consistent as research linking alcohol use to female reproductive dysfunction.
"Young women wHO drink alcohol may want to consider the longer-term consequences for later childbirth," cautioned Waldron. "If imbibition continues or increases to levels of problem use, their ability and/or opportunity to ingest children may be impaired."
"For women world Health Organization are already experiencing richness problems or other reproductive difficulties," added Wilsnack, "the study's findings should monish them not to use of goods and services alcohol to cope with stress caused by the reproductive problems, because inebriant would probable make the reproductive problems worse as well as carrying risks of possible alcohol abuse or dependence."
Wilsnack recommended that future research measure specific reproductive problems and their timing relative to increased drinking and symptoms of AD. This would help, she aforesaid, to clear up how often of the connection betwixt AD and delayed reproductive memory is due to contrary effects of alcohol on reproductive functioning and how much is due to reproductive problems creating pain and distraint that may be self-medicated by alcohol.
Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research (ACER) is the official journal of the Research Society on Alcoholism and the International Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism. Co-authors of the ACER paper, "Alcohol Dependence and Reproductive Onset: Findings in Two Australian Twin Cohorts," were: Andrew C. Heath, Kathleen K. Bucholz, and Pamela A. F. Madden of the Midwest Alcoholism Research Center in the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis; and Nicholas G. Martin of the Genetic Epidemiology Unit at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Brisbane, Australia. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
In the classic moving picture monster hierarchy, the cloth-clad Mummy really scrapes the bottom of the panic attack barrel. Aside from his close affinity with the zombie -- sadly, this is 1 Egyptian artefact that avoids the mandatory skin eating -- there's really naught inherently skittish about a reanimated clay with limited super(natural) powers. This is specially true of the sarcophagus' latest large screen avatar. In Rob Cohen's horrid The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, our wrapped rascal is literally as minatory as an inert stone statue.
Ever since the end of WWII, the rough riding O'Connell Family -- Rick (Brendan Fraser), Evelyn (Maria Bello, subbing for Rachael Weisz), and college age boy Alex (Luke Ford) -- have been in semi-retirement. Gone are the days when they would compass the globe looking for ancient treasure and kicking antiquated target. When they get the chance to return a precious diamond to the people of China, they jump at the chance. Unfortunately, the gem is instrumental in the resurrection of the evil Emperor Han (Jet Li), a ruthless tyrant bent on conquering the world. Luckily, an ancient witch (Michelle Yeoh) has cursed him to an eternity embedded in sway. Of course, it won't be long before our haphazard adventurers have him up and around -- and seeking immortality via his massive terra cotta army.
Borrowing every beat it can from the integral Indiana Jones lexicon, and lost in waves of pungent cinematic cheese, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is the latest in a long line of "who asked for it" three-quels as talent payroll check providers. It's a modus operandi romp which owes more to the modern engineering of today than the giddy joys of the '30s serials it constantly steals from. How tin can you defend a film which wastes the undeniable talents of Li and Yeoh and then allows CGI yetis to upstage them both and turn the stars of the story? You heard correct: Fake as faux fur Abominable Snowmen show up during the second act and become ferocious fuzzy-wuzzy bodyguards for our heroes. They tied know the practical way to fend off an avalanche.
Rob Cohen, whose resume all but mandates this genial of slapdash spectacle, has no control over his narrative. He wastes time on insignificant subplots (wHO cares some the O'Connells' home life?) and massive expositional exchanges (the curtain raising is 20 minutes of voiced-over mock mythology). Even worse, he cribs from the bloated visual surfeit of franchise founder Stephen Sommers (world Health Organization only produced here). During the last confrontation, what looks like every clay in China takes on a garrison of walking clay effigies so massive it mustiness have taken every motherboard in Silicon Valley to render. Of course, all this calculator pomposity has to resultant role in something else being sacrificed. In the sheath of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, it's fictional character, logic, sport, excitement, and a sense of popcorn escapism.

There is some confusion around the name Darwin Chamber, many people ar shy whether it is a radical or a solo creative person. The accuracy is that it all depends on the gig. Darwin Chamber is the alter ego of Mark Greenfield. Sometimes Greenfield brings another creative person into his act, sometimes he performs or produces on his have. Either way, he performs under his leg name (elysian by scientist Charles Darwin). A word of Marin County in Northern California, this producer has been active in the progressive electronic scene for more than tenner years. Just like the rest of the tube music scene's pioneers, he started eruditeness his craft on a garish keyboard in a friend's house and gradually kept moving on to more expensive equipment and more than prestigious venues.
A professional heavy technologist and bona fide "node tweaker", Chamber has earned deference on a expert level as well as a creative one. Creatively, he is acknowledged as one of the earliest contributors to the breakbeat and trip-hop sub-genres.
Chamber low gear made a advert for himself in San Francisco, but gained plenitude of recognition on the national and world music scenes in the recent '90s, even earning a nod from MTV during his flush. He released music on diverse indie labels, such as Twitch and Basssex. However, he gained the to the highest degree recognition for his uncut dismissal on Moonshine Records in 1998. Moonshine is peradventure the largest and best-known electronic tag in the state. When Chamber released the record album, called Ghetto Electro Chronicles, he united the ranks of DJ Keoki, Dieselboy, and Goldie, all of whom are Moonshine artists.
